Title: The Three Pigs

Author: David Wiesner

Illustrator: David Wiesner

Copyright date: 2001

Publisher: Clarion Books

Summary: This is another version of the three little pigs story, but it is not the same old tale. The pigs escape from inside the story, adventure into other stories, and make new friends along the way. This greatly confuses the big bad wolf and muddles up the story. In the end, the pigs' new friends help save the day and everyone is happy.

Media for illustration: Watercolor, gouache, colored inks, pencil, and colored pencil

Perfect student: This book is perfect for students of most backgrounds since the original story of the three little pigs is told in so many countries. It is also great for students who are creative and like to think outside of the box.

Common Core State Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.1.7 Use the illustrations and details in a text to describe its key ideas. This standard is for first grade, but I believe there are similar standards in other elementary grades as well and probably even higher grades. This standard works well with this book because the illustrations are award-winning.
