Summary: Extra Yarn is the story about a little girl who finds a magical box of yarn. The yarn never runs out, and the girl is able to knit sweaters for everyone in her town. She even knits sweaters for houses and cars. One day, an archduke comes to take the box of yarn for himself. The magical box does not work for him after he steals it from the girl. When he throws the box out of the window in anger, the box finds its way back to the little girl.

Perfect student: This book is perfect for students who love arts and crafts. It would also be a good book to read in fall or winter.
Common Core State Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.1.7 Use the illustrations and details in a text to describe its key ideas. This standard is for first grade, but I believe there are similar standards in other elementary grades as well and probably even higher grades. This standard works well with this book because the illustrations are award-winning.
