Summary: This is the story of a bigfoot woman named Ella who is mistreated by her stepmother and stepsister, who are also bigfoot women. When the bigfoot prince holds a fun-fest where he will pick his bride, the stepsisters ban Ella from attending. While she is doing her chores catching fish, she meets a big bear in the woods. He grants her wish to go to the fun-fest and gives her a pair of bark clogs to help her win the prince's game. Ella attends the fun-fest, and she wins the game. She runs away because the bear's spell is wearing off. Eventually, the prince finds her and they marry.

Perfect student: This book is perfect for students who love nature or who are studying the California grizzly bear.
Common Core State Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.5.2Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text. This text works well with this standard because fractured fairytales are familiar stories with small changes, so students will be able to pinpoint specific differences to help them determine the new theme and the story has a definitive beginning, middle, and end.
