Title: A Couple of Boys Have the Best Week Ever
Author: Marla Frazee
Illustrator: Marla Frazee
Copyright date: 2008
Publisher: Harcourt, Inc
Summary: This is the story of two young friends who are away from their parents for a while week while they attend a nature camp. The boys don't like the camp too well, but they enjoy staying at one of the boys' grandparents' house. They eat lots of pancakes and play video games, but they rarely go outside or enjoy nature while they are there. Finally, on the last day of their trip, the boys enjoy the stars and decide to play outside.
Media for illustration: Black prismacolor and gouache on stonehenge paper
Perfect student: This book would be great for students who enjoy comic books, and because the pictures are so elaborate it would also be good for ELLs.
Common Core State Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.1.7 Use the illustrations and details in a text to describe its key ideas. This standard is for first grade, but I believe there are similar standards in other elementary grades as well and probably even higher grades. This standard works well with this book because the illustrations are award-winning.
